The dynamic sealing of a valve primarily refers to the sealing of the valve stem. Preventing the medium inside the valve from leaking as the valve stem moves is the central issue of valve dynamic sealing.

Currently, the primary method for dynamic sealing of valves is through the use of stuffing boxes. The basic form of a stuffing box is as follows:

(1) Press-fit type
This is the most commonly used form.
The same form can exhibit numerous differences in details. For instance, in terms of compression bolts, they can be categorized into T-shaped bolts (used for low-pressure valves with a pressure of ≤16 kg/cm²), stud bolts, and union bolts. In terms of gland, they can be classified into integral and composite types.
(2) Compression nut type
This type has a small external size, but its clamping force is limited, making it suitable only for small valves.

Inside the stuffing box, the packing is in direct contact with the valve stem and fills the entire box to prevent medium leakage. The following requirements are imposed on the packing:
(1) Good sealing performance;
(2) Corrosion resistance;
(3) Small friction coefficient;
(4) Adapt to the temperature and pressure of the medium.
